If you’re looking for the best methods to make your dog stop eating poop, you’ve come to the right place…
I’ve read other articles which try to explain why dogs eat poop. Who cares why they do it? Dogs are dogs, and dogs eat poop. That’s all there is to it. But there are some things you can do to stop it.
Method #1: Clean up the poop before your dog can get to it. If your dog poops, clean it up. That’s pretty basic. Dogs won’t eat poop that’s not there. Carry a baggy or a shovel when you walk your dog and clean it up. Dogs usually won’t eat fresh poop, but they often come back later for a frozen poopsicle.
Method #2: Get For-Bid from your pet store and mix it into your dog’s food. Supposedly it will make the poop less appealing to your dog when it comes out the other end. People have also experimented (successfully) with mixing meat tenderizer in the dog food. I’ve heard of several people saying this works for them. It’s cheaper than For-Bid also.
Method #3: Teach your dog a command such as “Leave it” which means “don’t eat that crap.” Here’s a great dog-training resource which I recommend.
Method #4: Sprinkle some nasty tasting stuff on every pile of poop you come across to teach your dog that eating the poop tastes gross. I recommend some very hot sauce.
Method #5: If your dog eats cat poop from the litter pan, I recommend buying a litter pan with a lid and door. This has worked great for me.
Method #6: If your dog is still sneaking into the cat’s litter pan, put the litter pan up on some kind of platform, out of reach from the dog. Of course, this will only work for smaller dogs.
I hope that gives you some ideas. Don’t forget to check out this dog training program for some excellent training tips.
